The Pittsburgh Public Schools have announced their proposed Facilities Re-organization Plan for 2012-13 (NOT the school year about to start, but NEXT year). That plan is District-wide, but affects several Northside schools. The highlights:

–          Morrow K-5 in Brighton Heights expands to include Rooney to create a K-8 (Morrow housing K-4, Rooney 5-8)

–          Manchester and King Schools, both at risk of closing, remain OPEN.

–          Northview Elementary closes and the kids in that attendance zone are assigned to either Morrow/Rooney or King.

–          Oliver High School closes, and Perry becomes the sole Northside High School

–          The Special Education program in McNaugher School moves into the Oliver Building, and the McNaugher Building closes.

You can read the details of the plans here (Roll over the Aug 4 headline and it will give you links to several documents):

http://www.pps.k12.pa.us/14311011271424833/site/default.asp

Penn’s Seasonal Beer Offerings Continue in New Year

Penn Brewery will continue our tradition of seasonal beers in 2011. Penn’s Märzen will return in kegs and bottles beginning in January after a two-year hiatus. Märzen is a full-bodied, amber-red lager fest beer, aromatically malty, that is traditionally brewed in spring. Beer critic Michael Jackson listed Penn Märzen as one of his “top 24 favorite American beers.”

Brewers Andy Rich and Nick Rosich are also planning the next draft beer in Penn’s Brewmaster’s Choice lineup. Andy says that the pair are working on a silky Chocolate Milk Stout beer for February, in time for Valentine’s Day. Cuddle up and share some with your sweetheart!

Here’s what’s coming up in February at Penn Brewery:

Thu. February 3 – JACKSON ROHM 6-10PM

(Jackson is a popular artist playing in venues all the way from Illinois to Ohio to Florida. And this is his FIRST show in Pittsburgh!)

Fri. February 4 – THE BLUES ORPHANS 8-11PM

Sat. February 19 – JIMMY SAPIENZA’S FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE 7-10PM
